Overview
The Assurance Lead (Safer Gambling & Enterprise) is responsible for independently testing and evaluating the effectiveness of Dabble's global safer gambling and broader enterprise control environment (including Australia, UK and US), providing assurance that obligations under applicable industry regulations including safer gambling legislation, license conditions and codes of practice are being met in practice, not just in policy.
Reporting to the Senior Risk & Compliance Assurance Manager, this role documents and tests the design and operating effectiveness of safer gambling and enterprise controls and identifies emerging harm minimisation and operational risks across Dabble's licensed jurisdictions, providing credible, evidence-based reporting to senior management and relevant governance committees. This role offers broad, hands-on exposure across the full scope of regulatory Assurance activity, with key stakeholders including the Senior Risk & Compliance Assurance Manager, GM Risk and Compliance, Customer Intelligence and Customer Operations, Technology, and Marketing teams.
The focus of this role will be reviewing case files, system records, and supporting documentation to substantiate whether controls have operated as intended. This includes the ability to identify where jurisdictional requirements differ materially, such as harm minimisation obligations, self-exclusion arrangements and marketing or advertising restrictions, and to design testing that accounts for those differences.
Primary Location
Melbourne is our preferred location for this role, however we are also open to candidates based in Brisbane.
Responsibilities
Document and assess whether safer gambling and enterprise controls meet the requirements of relevant regulatory frameworks, licence conditions and codes of practice
Design and execute risk-based assurance testing plans, including testing methodology, sampling approaches and quality assurance standards, covering safer gambling and enterprise controls
Assess the design and operating effectiveness of key controls against regulatory obligations, licence conditions and industry good practice
Prepare clear, evidence-based reporting on testing outcomes and findings for the Senior Risk & Compliance Assurance Manager, senior management and relevant internal governance committees
Communicate testing results directly to control owners, constructively challenging findings and influencing remediation and control improvement
Track identified issues and remediation actions through to closure, validating that corrective actions are effective and address root cause
Maintain awareness of regulatory developments, guidance and enforcement trends relevant to safer gambling and enterprise risk (e.g. ACMA and state and territory gambling regulators) and incorporate emerging risk indicators into testing focus areas
Lead enforceable undertakings, regulatory audits or major external assurance engagements, with the ability to manage complex regulator-facing work through to closure
Support the Senior Risk & Compliance Assurance Manager and broader compliance team with ad hoc reviews, regulator information requests and audit readiness activities as needed
Skills & Qualifications
Minimum 5 years' experience in risk, compliance or assurance, with demonstrated exposure to safer gambling, consumer protection or enterprise risk control testing in online wagering or gaming environments
Sound working knowledge of safer gambling and consumer protection obligations across multiple jurisdictions, including but not limited to Australia, the UK and the US
Experienced in testing controls for both design and operating effectiveness, documenting control objectives, ownership and design in a clear, structured and auditable way, and reviewing case files, system records and supporting documentation to substantiate whether a control has operated as intended, so that testing outcomes are defensible and repeatable by others
Proficient in developing and applying sampling methodologies (e.g. risk-based, judgemental and statistical sampling) to determine appropriate testing coverage across control populations
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, evidence-based reports for senior stakeholders and governance committees
Ability to constructively challenge control owners and influence remediation outcomes
Strong analytical skills, with sound judgement and attention to detail
Experience leading enforceable undertakings, regulatory audits or major external assurance engagements, with the ability to manage complex regulator-facing work through to closure
Demonstrated experience in incident management, including identifying root causes, coordinating timely remediation and embedding controls to prevent re-occurrence
Are you a Dabbler?
A Dabbler’s attitude is paramount, as the right person will be able to learn quickly and adapt to any skill gaps. A Dabbler is always a team player, with a willingness to share with and learn from others. Being a remote-first workplace, collaborative working styles are crucial to empower and grow each individual member (eg we prefer openness via public channels to problem solve or ideate on Slack).
A Dabbler uses their freedom of autonomy to its absolute potential and enjoys contributing to the Dabble community. We hold respect for our peers very highly – there is no such thing as a bad idea. We encourage you to think differently, be brave and strive to always raise the bar. Dabble was born out of thought sharing and should tackle growth in the same way. Dabble embraces empowerment of all people at any level of seniority and experience to ‘own their work’ and ‘talk their book’ wherever they can.
A fulfilling life extends beyond work, and we encourage our employees to prioritise self-care and well-being. This means taking breaks when needed, setting boundaries, and seeking support when facing challenges. We are committed to creating a safe environment where individuals feel comfortable discussing their wellbeing and accessing resources when necessary.
